2D - Week 3:
In this blog I will talk about drawing perspective grids in photoshop with both 2 point and 3 point grids. We go through how to make it, how to draw within the grids and how to take what we learned last week and applied it to digital drawing.
Size of Canvas:
The size of the canvas that we used was 1920 x 1080 from the Film and Video however this has blue bars at the side however we don't want that so we turned them off by going into view > guides > clear guides. We used rulers for creating the lines we needed and to add rulers you need to go to view > rulers and it will then add rulers to the top and to the side where you can drag them into your scene.
Sizing up Canvas:
To add an extra space to the canvas where we will place our vanishing points you will go into image > canvas size. In the settings here you will be able to change the size of the canvas by changing it to percentage and then changing it to 200 width and if you want to create a 3 point grid instead of 2 point you will do the same thing again and then change the anchor by pressing the downwards arrow so it only affects the top part of the scene (if you want the vanishing point at the bottom click the top arrow instead). You will need to change the canvas extension colour to be a different colour so you can see where you will be drawing in comparison to where you set up places for your vanishing points.
To create the horizon line:
You will need to use the rulers that we added earlier and drag the ruler at the top down to the middle and hold shift to place it in the centre of the canvas. You can do the same for the 2 vanishing points by dragging rulers out from the left side and where the horizon line and the rulers at the sides meet is where your vanishing points will be.
Shape tool:
Instead of drawing out the lines individually we used the shape tool instead. We used the pentagon shape and changed the amount of sides depending on how many different lines we wanted for our perspective grid. I originally had mine at 75 during the demo that we were given however I decided to change it to 50 as there were quite a few different lines which made it confusing to see which lines were going where. We then changed the settings of the shape, the settings are located in the button with the cog wheel at the top. We changed the From Centre button to be on, the freeform button to be on and changed the star ratio to be from 100% to 1%.
To create a 3rd point we need to move the canvas size to be further up to be able to put the 3rd point in. You can then choose where you want to put the 3rd point in and then draw the shape you used for the others in.
Drawing in 3 point grids:
Making Equidistant fences:
We used what we learned from last week, creating fences that are the same distance from each other however get smaller towards the vanishing point.
