Building Alliances - Week 1:

In this blog I will talk about the brief we were given and the groups we were placed into. We had to decide on team leaders for each part of the project which I will list later on in this blog too.

About the brief:

The topics we were given were all based on the environment and we needed to choose one of the topics from the 3 given and turn it into a concept for a game. We have to create assets to go along with the concept for a game which could be used by a dev team or for a game jam. The formative submission is the 28/10/24 and the summative submission is the 26/01/25.

We will need to create:

- 2D Concept Art
- 3D Models
- Level Blockouts
- Menu Assets

We will all be required to do each part however it we each are assigned a lead role depending on what we are good at and what is needed for the project.

Our Roles:

Seb - Director
Edward - Research Lead
Francis - 2D Lead
Katie - 3D Lead

About my role:

As the 3D Lead I will be required to oversee the 3D work that is needed for the project. I am quite confident with 3D so I will use that to be able to help others in the group with anything they are stuck on with the models that I assign them to make. It will be my job to assign what each person in the group is to model however before I can do that I will need to help out with other parts of the project such as researching, creating concept art and other things that will be required for us to complete the project. Once the project is closer to the deadline and we start looking at putting the assets into Unreal Engine if we get time, I will be able to help everyone out with learning / navigating Unreal as I have experience with it from college.

My skills in 3D will be useful to helping with creating assets, giving advice with the best way of how to create models easily and quickly and with good topology. There are skills I need to learn and develop such as creating UVs however I hope to use this project to work on this and develop my skills in 3D as well as helping the others in the team to be able to develop their skills in 3D too.

What we decided on:

We decided that our name for the company would be Early Games and that the logo would be inspired by the sun rising. We wanted to create a tower defence game however wanted to make it educational so we didn't want it to be too hard that players wouldn't be interested in the game but we still wanted to make it a slight challenge.

We all decided that we liked the design that I had sketched out so our 2D lead decided to take it and turn it into a digital design using a similar design to what I had made.

Other Logo Ideas:

One of the other members in the group created a few other ideas that we thought were good as well however we didn't end up using them.

OneDrive:

I created a one drive and made different folders for everything that I thought we would need such as 2D, 3D, Research, Other and Voice Recordings. With these folders it would keep everything organised and easy to find for everyone and we could add more in the future if we needed to.

Discord:

Our director Seb created a discord for us all to join as we thought that it would be easier for us all to communicate with each other as we all have easy access to it and are more likely to get quicker responses from everyone. We were worried that using discord wouldn't be professional enough so we decided to make sure everyone's names were labelled with their role and their name so that everyone was recognisable if screenshots were shared to show feedback from others in the group or discussions we wanted to talk about in our blogs.

NDA:

OpenAI. (2024). ChatGPT [online]. Available at: https://www.openai.com/chatgpt [Accessed 26 September 2024].

I used chatgpt to generate a basic NDA so that we knew what an NDA included. We used a few of the points for our NDA and I wrote up the points that we had discussed to have more information than just a bullet point under each heading. We tried to simplify the NDA as we didn't need most of the points that were on the one chatgpt gave us however wanted to take inspiration from it and didn't want to copy it so we use some of the headers that we wanted to include and wrote our own points for what we needed for the project.

Contract of Engagement:

We had some bullet points with what we wanted to include with our Contract of Engagement and so I used ones that I thought would be good to place in there and then I added a few others that I thought would be good to put in.

I asked our Director if he could look over what I had written for the Contract of Engagement and I asked all the members to sign that as well as the NDA that I had just finished as well.
