Industry Practice - Week 10:
In this blog I will be talking about contracts, the importance of contracts and which types we will be creating for our project. I will also be showing the progress that I made on the sound brief in
Importance of contracts:
There are several different reasons for why you would want to use a contact as they can help with different things such as protecting your work, avoiding legal issues, opportunities for compensation through licensing and other ways as well as being recognised for your work. As there are different types of contracts its important to use the right contract for the situation that it is required for. For example when working on a confidential project you would use an NDA (Non disclosure agreement) however you may not use an NDA for other situations as there may be a more appropriate contract to use.
When contracts are used:
Contracts are and can be used for different situations such as for working with a freelance artist or a studio depending on your job, collaborating with others on a game or product, commissioning someone to complete work for you or being commissioned by someone else. As previously said there are many different scenarios where different contacts are used. (Williams, 2024)
Types of contracts:
As stated before there are many different types of contracts ranging from employment contracts to NDA's, they are listed below:
• Employment Contract (Working Styles)
• Freelance Contract (Working Styles)
• Commission Consultation/Contract
• Terms of Collaboration
• Invoices
• NDA’s

Contracts we will be creating:
During this project we will be focusing on creating an NDA and sound brief so that if we were going to work with other people to be able to create the music that we may use in the project. We were considering having one of the members friends to create the music as they are a music student however after making sure it was okay to have them create it, as a group we decided that it would be best to continue without having them make the music as we were worried about getting the music on time so we decided that we wanted to use royalty free music.
We needed to create a contract to be able to give the creator of the music a guide of how to make the music the way that we want for the music and the genre of the game. Even if we don't decide to have someone to make the music for us we still need to make the sound brief so that we can use it for searching for music so that everyone is finding similar music to each other for the genre that we are making our game for.
Sound brief progress:
Whilst in lesson I created a google slide with all of the different topics that we should talk about. I created them so that in the future one of us can go and create the sound brief and add all the information into it. During the lesson we were still deciding on if we use music so I asked if the member who's friend was creating the music to add the information to the sound brief as it was their friend that was creating the music.
