2D - Week 26:
In this blog I will show my drawings of incline planes and how to work them out.
To draw a box at 22.5 degrees you need to create a square and add diagonal lines and then split it in the middle vertically and horizontally then half them again. Depending on which way you want to turn the box that you draw you either pick the points at the top of the box that are one to the right of their original points or the one to the left and draw lines between them to make the new box.
If you add 3 point perspective to the box there are a few more steps you need to take as you have the height of the box to worry about too. First you need to make two squares, one on the bottom and then one at the top making sure they are in perspective with the point at the top. Then draw lines between the two squares and put diagonal lines in the two squares to show where the middle of them is. After that you need to put a line through the middle line in the first version. This time you don't need to put the extra lines in and you can draw lines from the middle of the square on each of them to make the box at an angle in 3 point. This box was drawn at 45 degrees instead of the 22.5 which is why you don't have to draw in the extra lines for the box.
As our final task we were shown how to make a box with the lid slightly open and in perspective. First you need to make a 2 point grid and draw a box in it. You then need to draw a line from one of the bottom corners to a point above the vanishing point but slightly higher than it. From the point where the line goes through the line to the vanishing point from the top of the box you need to draw a line up using the height from the box and making it the same height as the bottom at the top and do this to the other side of the box too. Then you need to add diagonal lines and lines horizontally and vertically to find the middle then create a circle around it. From the middle point you can now add a line to how far you want the box lid to open and then draw a line to the other side of the box and attach it to the back of the box to complete the lid. Some of my construction lines are quite dark so it makes it harder to see where the box is which is something I need to work on when I do traditional art.
Even though I found that creating a box lid in perspective quite tricky as there were a lot of steps involved however I do think that if I practice it then I will find it easier to remember all the steps I need to do to create it. I do think that it is useful to know how to do for when creating scenes and you may have an open box or other item where the lid is open slightly.
