Zbrush - Reflection:
In this blog I will be talking about what I liked from this project, what I didn't like and what I would have done differently.
Overview of this project:
Overall I didn't really enjoy this project due to my skills being in maya and having to learn a new software. I enjoy to create hard surface models rather than sculpting which made this project a challenge to create as I constantly was frustrated with how the creation of the character was going as I came to a lot of issues that I had to problem solve where I couldn't find a solution to them and I had to find another way to deal with the issue. I think that if I had started the project earlier it would have meant I had more time to deal with the issues I faced however with the time that I gave myself I am quite happy with the outcome.
What went well:
I think that the model itself is good as I haven't used zbrush before and so I had to learn a new software as well as create a character with it. I did find that once I got the hang of how I use the software and how the tools worked I did find it slightly easier to use the software however due to creating characters not being something I am very skilled with yet I did struggle with this project.
What didn't go well:
During the project I encountered a lot of issues both in zbrush and maya. I learned quite a lot of tools in both maya and zbrush to be able to make the character however a lot of the issues I faced meant that I had to use auto functions in maya which I wasn't very happy about however as I hadn't left myself a lot of time to solve issues as I had started the project much later than I should of which meant that I was trying to cram a big project into a few weeks instead of giving myself longer and having some time before I need to submit.
My time management throughout the project wasn't very good as even though I had a gantt chart and a kanban chart once I got past the formative and onto where I should have been getting started with the creation of my model I started to stop working on the model as much and took quite a while to just get the model finished as I didn't want to be working on it as I was constantly frustrated when I was working on it which made me not want to work on it even more. I think if I had carried on with it and tried to get it out the way earlier than I did then it would have left me more time to work on issues that came up during the project.
What I would have done differently:
I would have started the modelling earlier as I was on track when I needed to research and draw my character but when it came to modelling in zbrush I was really behind the whole time which didn't leave me much time for other tasks that I had to complete. I think if I was to do this again I would ask for help more often, I struggle to ask for help due to my anxiety but I think if I had this time then I would have been able to solve the issues that I had and then complete the character much quicker than I did.
