Building Alliance - Week 5:
In this blog I will talk about what we discussed when creating our powerpoint and the different things that we thought we needed to include. I will also show the different models I worked on so that I could display on the powerpoint some of the concept art that I had made.
Powerpoint:
I helped with putting all our images from our discord to the powerpoint and I created my slide with my concept art on it. Our 2D Lead organised the slides with all the images on so that they were split up into each persons towers and enemies. I displayed all my concept art for our tower designs in the powerpoint on its own slide. It shows my first initial designs that I presented to the team and some more iterations that I created specifically for the fungi tower. My other designs include the pellet designs which I went with a very smooth stone look as pellets look very small and smooth when seen and the other designs I created were for the bone design which we are still working on developing into designs we are happy with.
Once I had finished working on my slide for our presentation by putting all the images I had of my concept art onto my slide and rearranging them so that they were in groups so that the viewer wouldn't be confused of which tower is which. I grouped them by which tower they were so I had all the fungi towers together, the pellets together and then the bone towers together.
I will be talking about the research that is on the right side of the image that includes how to prevent microplastics. I will talk about how we looked at how to prevent them and what we found out and how we intend to use the research to inform our decisions for our game based on that. We decided that we wanted to talk about the pre-level buffs that will be available and decided to discuss why our research impacted our discission on why we wanted to include the buffs.
Concept Art:
These are my initial fungi designs that I created and I was using one of Seb's concepts. I tried to use that for inspiration. I used my starting one and built of it each time I created a new model I took different things I liked from the first and I used it for inspiration for the next one. I looked at images of microplastics and used that to inform how I made the tower look. We still wanted to have it informative however we wanted to take a stylistic approach with how we had the towers look.
I took the previous designs and expanded on it with some feedback given by our director. He said that he liked how animated it looked however wanted the stem to be slightly thicker in a new version. I took that and changed it with the feedback I got and took some inspiration from other designs that I had done and I added the petals to them.
I used a sphere and used several different deform tools such as the wave, sine and squash tool to be able to create different ideas for the pellets. It was very quick and easy to do as they don't require much detail as they are quite round and smooth. We decided we wanted to have 2 or 3 pellet designs so that we have a variety. I didn't do as many concepts as some of the other towers due to them being so simple we didn't see the need to create more of them.
These are some of the bone towers I was working on however I couldn't find one that I was happy with so I am still looking to work on more of the towers. Our 2D Lead created an orthograph however we hadn't decided on a design yet so I thought it was a bit premature to be making them so we decided to continue to work on concept art for the time being.
Meeting:
Date: 27/10/2024
In Attendance: Seb, Ed, Francis, Katie
Meeting Agenda & My Role: In the meeting we discussed our presentation that we had the next day and we were making final changes to the powerpoint and reviewing any work that we had made since last lesson.
Decisions and/or Actions & Deadlines: We decided on who would be talking about each slide and what we needed to get done for the presentation
Resources: Google Slides
Other Reflections:
In our meeting we discussed if we needed to add any final additions to the powerpoint and we discussed who would speak about each slide. I was feeling nervous about the presentation so our director decided not to give me too many slides to talk about so that I could focus on the ones I had and that I would be less nervous when talking about my slides as I had less to talk about. I will be talking about the research I did on preventing / combatting microplastics when they are in the body and that we decided with the research that we had done that we would use prelevel buffs at the start of each level to help the player within each level. I also was tasked with talking about my concept art. I decided I wanted to create my concept art in 3D so that I could work quicker when creating the concepts as I have a good understanding of maya and how to work quickly in a 3D software. I decided to talk about the iterations in the presentation that I had created in the meeting. I was getting feedback from the other members in our group and I was taking their feedback into consideration when creating each new version of the tower.
