Industry Practice - Week 8:

In this blog I will be talking about what Labour Market is and why it is important as well as going over what we talked about in our meeting.

What is Labour Market:

Labour Market means the supply for the labour in an economy where employees and employers buy and sell their labour services. Specifically in the Games Industry it refers to the employment within the game industry.

What is the games market like?

The global games market in 2023 in total were $183.9 billion with the biggest revenues being from mobile games with them making $89.9 billion. Console and PC revenues being the most similar to each other with console making $52.4 billion and PC making $39.6 billion. This shows that mobile games make the most revenue from 2023.

Console and PC have more similar revenues with console gaining $51.9 billion and pc gaining $43.2 billion over the year, with console making slightly less in 2024 however PC making slightly more than 2023. In 2023 84.6 billion of the global revenue was from Asia with the next highest being North America at 49.9 billion. However the places with the smallest revenues are from the Middle East & Africa and Latin America at 8.6 billion. Its quite a difference between the countries with the highest earnings compared to the lowest earning countries.

In 2024 the revenue from the year was higher than the previous year so each country had a growth in revenue with most gaining about 1billion more than the previous year. For example the year before in 2023 Asia's revenue was 84.4 billion but in 2024 their revenue was 85.9 billion. On the other hand countries that in 2024 didn't gain as much only had a bit of an increase from last year. For example the Middle East & Africa going from 7.1 billion in 2023 to 7.7 billion in 2024 which to some wouldn't be much of an increase however a billion is still a lot of money.

Equality and Diversity in the Games Industry:

Why its important to have equality and diversity in the games industry:

Its important to have equality and diversity as everyone should be given the chance at the same opportunities and having diversity is a positive addition to the industry as having different genders, people with different life experiences and neurodiverse people and others can give a range of different views on a topic. It can help to boost creativity as everyone will have their own views and opinions on a topic allowing for the best possible outcomes for the games created.

Meeting:

Date: 21/11/2024
In Attendance: Katie, Lottie, Jess, Ed, Louie, Jacob
Meeting Agenda & My Role: To look over art that was created since last lesson and to give more tasks
Decisions and/or Actions & Deadlines: The tasks weren't discussed in the meeting so we talked about it in class instead
Resources: Discord
Other Reflections:

We scheduled the meeting for 7pm after a lesson so that it gave chance for everyone to get home before we had the meeting however some were running late and weren't back home so we pushed it back to 7.30pm instead however only Louie showed up. Lottie cancelled before however showed the artwork that she had been doing for the dance studio design and some ideas she had for the clutter that could be around the MC's room.

This is the design that Lottie showed us and I was quite happy with it however wanted to see more concepts for it which could be worked on in the future as I wanted Lottie to focus more on the script so that we know what is happening in the story.

These are some of the clutter Lottie created for the bedroom or for other backgrounds that we need to add clutter for. I quite like the books and the posters as I think that it would be a good thing to put in the room to add more interesting items to the background rather than it being plain and empty.
